Welcome!
Hello, and welcome to Eat Well, Live Fit, Run Much! I’m so
glad you stopped by! My name is Kris and I’m a 28 year old mom of (almost) 2,
living in small-town Nebraska (born and raised), and striving to live a healthy
lifestyle. I started this blog a couple of years ago because I enjoyed
documenting and sharing my own running experiences. As time went on, I realized
that while running is a special part of me, living an overall healthy lifestyle
is just as important. This blog has inspired me to use my running to try be a
healthy role model for my family and I hope you’ll find it to be a positive and
inspiring way to live fit and be at your best self, too! Enjoy!
More About Who I Am
My Running Story:
I. Love. Running!
Funny as I was never much of a runner in high school, save for “Mile
Monday’s” in volleyball practice. But there is truly an amazing joy and
challenge I’ve found in competing with myself and meeting so many other
positive, running-minded people like me. I caught the bug during my sophomore
year in college after being invited by my aunt and uncle to run the LA
marathon. I simply could not get in enough training to do the whole thing, and
the overwhelming thought of it caused me to back-out, but I did fly out to
watch my dad run it. That’s when things clicked. There was something so
inspiring about watching these crazy people not just race each other, but also
the clock – and still be able to cross that finish line with a grin from ear to
ear. I went home from that trip and starting running, truly running. I trained
for the Lincoln half marathon the following spring, finished the race, and
never looked back. I’ve been running ever since! My favorite race distance is
the half marathon and because I’ve always been a morning person, that’s when I
fit in my running time. My alarm is usually blaring at 5 a.m., much to my
husband’s dismay. ;)
Healthy Bites:
When it comes to food, I like to keep it simple: I believe
in listening to your body, not the clock. I always have a stock of snacks
because I know that getting too hungry leads me to overeat and make poor choices.
I have a hard time believing in quick
fixes like diet pills and shakes, but I do fully believe in the 80/20 rule –
80% of any diet should be healthy and nutritious (fruits, vegetables, lean
protein, and whole grains), while the other 20% is saved for splurges and
favorites (a glass of wine, that cupcake you’ve been eyeing, a margarita… yes, my
weaknesses are sweets and adult beverages!) I’ve also found my biggest
challenge to be finding healthy, nutritious food that my family loves. There’s nothing more frustrating than pouring
your heart and soul into a healthy meal you’re excited about, only to look
across the table and find your own husband picking out the peppers. Oy. Needless
to say, my search for tasty, healthy meals is never ending.
Home is Where the Heart Is:
I’m the first to admit that I would be nowhere without my family and faith. My faith keeps me grounded and
my family keeps my heart full! In July, 2011, I married my best friend and
high-school sweetheart, Cory, and in March of 2013 we welcomed home our baby
girl, Makenna. We’re also expecting baby #2 in February! My true overall goal
and hope for my family is to show my children how important staying active and
living a healthy lifestyle is by setting a good example. I’m literally
petrified of my children growing up to be a childhood obesity statistic as the
stats run ever higher. I want them to see the joy and inward self-confidence
that comes from staying active. It’s definitely one of the motivators that gets
my buns out of bed in the morning!
